Spreading Light
Spreading Light
I follow an amazing Spiritual Guru online and have even had a one to one with him and I find his words so inspiring and thought provoking. He lives in Tasmania, so the booking I had with him had to be 0630 in the morning to accommodate the difference in time line! Nevertheless, it was a fantastic reading and I found that he too, is a fellow Sagittarius!
One of the messages he regularly includes in his many talks, and readings and videos is guidance on spreading light. How that translates in day to day life, is the principle of extending kindness wherever we are, showing up for ourselves and for others. He uses examples of giving up your place in a queue, to someone who may be carrying a heavy load, or offering your seat on a busy train or bus to someone who may need it more.
I remember the months prior to listening to this advice, I passed a homeless person and ordinarily I don’t carry cash anymore, but this time I had about £5 in change. I took the opportunity to make up for all the times I hadn’t been able to help and gave it all to the person. The Guru told me that I had given some money to someone on the street recently; and that it was an earth angel. This was so remarkable and I felt so pleased that I had helped someone.
He talks too, about words, and how the choice of them can either spread light or darkness. We have to be so selective about their use. If we put negative intentions out into the world, it affects the paths we take in powerful ways. For example, if we wish we were well off, if we want for more wealth, a bigger house, faster car, the universe will continue sending us the energy of needing. But if we sit in the energy of already having these things; words like I have everything I want, I will use my current wealth and will drive the car I want, I am already wealthy in everything that I do, this attracts the energy of abundance.
He also guards against gossip, using a loose tongue to judge others and talk about them behind their back. He actually describes this as one of the oldest kinds of witch craft and warns of the darkness it brings. It can be so easy to get drawn into drama, another dark energy, particularly if that drama involves the lives of others. It can be so tempting to get drawn into conversations about what someone has done, a disagreement, or a fallout, collectively stripping down that person, judging their choices, behaviour, character. In doing so we are investing in our own karma and inviting darkness into our energy. Even if we don’t agree with another, or we simply don’t have compatibility with someone, a work colleague, a family member, a friend who we have grown apart from, he guides us to send love, forgiveness (if this is warranted) and light.
We are not here to judge others, or to try and participate in their karmic journeys. This is why he guards against revenge. Spreading light is not about holding grudges, this lowers our vibrations, so that our energy is spent thinking ill of others. We lose the beauty of that joy and love that vibrates at a much higher frequency, than the darker, lower vibration of hate, revenge, gossip and judgement. I spent many times exiting in this state, I can remember how it feels; a heavy dark load, anger and turmoil festering in my lower chakras. Oftentimes it was even physical, abdominal pain, pelvic cramps. Since shedding a lot of negative energy (my recent Reiki helped with this too) and making peace with specific people in my life, I have more joy, and feel lighter.
I mention forgiveness elsewhere and in my book, and this action is very powerful, and starts within. We live as humans, and by definition, are flawed by our own egoist state. We have to put our needs above others to survive, and sometimes when our needs are at odds with others this creates conflict. It is this conflict that then attracts negativity. Somebody else’s needs will always contradict ours at many times in our lives. This is where arguments and disagreements manifest, starting small scale, perhaps a stranger who wants your parking space, because they always use it, whereas you believe it is yours because you arrived there first. This can be applied on a much grander scale, to global territorial conflict like the world wars, or the Ukraine conflict, still waging on now. What then, is the answer? I am probably better answering this on the small scale example; I don’t pretend to be a world leading diplomat. Imagine the person in the car, getting out to approach you, to berate you for taking their parking spot. Of course you can give the space up, and if you have the time, and can move somewhere else, this would be a very gracious act. However, if you are in a rush, and really cannot compromise, and you know that you have fairly taken the space how can you minimise negativity? I must make you aware, I suffered from road rage for most of my driving life, so this advice comes from a lot of practice in self-awareness!
You might listen to the person ranting, even if they are angry, or using bad language, but your response is everything. You can either add fuel to this fire, or you could remain calm and put your point across, without raising your voice, and disengaging. While this may not appease the other person, it allows you to remain out of the drama. Sometimes, like this example, it’s not about giving up your own needs, to favour another’s. It’s about listening to others, acknowledging their frustration, and being respectful. That scenario could have gotten so much worse if I had matched the others’ anger, and shouted back, or used the same language. It takes greater strength to remain calm. I am still learning this!
