Fear
Frightening voice inside my head,
Pounding heart, a fist of lead
Tightening grip on words unsaid
Swallowed back down, unheard, instead.
Today looms over the bed as I wake,
Fear curls up my neck like a venomous snake,
No rescue from this constant threat I create
Internal voices, fight a pointless debate
Distraction is power, my reprieve, secret weapon
Protecting me from the vitriol they threaten
But in moments of still, I find no escape
Succumbing to numbness, my only mistake
Fear is an illusion, a distortion of mind,
shadow cast from uncertainty, obscuring the view behind.
To surrender this burden of trepidant doom
A garden of seeds with nowhere to bloom
