Muted Pain
Crumpled up papers of letters never sent,
Muted words, unsaid, swallowed down like cement,
Silent pain, out of tune, hitting all the wrong notes,
Denying my truth, burning my throat
A tentative dip in the pool of pain,
I’m taking my body back there again,
To give back the shame, once my shadow,
Replaced by a shield, to my hands bestow
Walk through the fire, turn into the storm,
Sit in the agony, its twisted ugly form,
Surrender to this darkness, it too shall pass,
Once my monsters paced quietly, now shatter like glass.
